Ilmington

Ilmington is a very pretty village mainly built of honey coloured Cotswold stone and lying approximately 3½ miles from the market town of Chipping Campden and 7 miles south of Stratford on Avon. Situated on the lower slopes and foot of the Cotswold Escarpment, magnificent panoramic views may be seen from several points on the winding roads that down to the village. There are footpaths winding through and from the village, and walkers will be impressed by the fabulous scenery stretching for miles as they stroll along Ilmington Downs.

Garden lovers will enjoy the benefit of being able to visit two wonderful and well known gardens on their doorstep – Hidcote (National trust) and Kifstgate. Situated by Hidcote Bartrim and within yards of each other, from Easter to late October/beginning November the gardens are worth a visit any time during the season. (Please check for opening days). A 5 minute drive from Ilmington will take you to them and after your tour of the gardens why not relax and have lunch or afternoon tea. (restaurant plus outside café and shop at Hidcote; afternoon tea at Kiftsgate, plus plants for sale)

Ilmington has a good village shop/post office where you can buy most daily needs including locally baked bread and pastries and you will receive a friendly welcome there. The village is lucky to have two welcoming Inns – The Red Lion and The Howard Arms (has award winning menus and restaurant.)

If you like to explore the area Stratford on Avon is a short drive away and there are many attractions for all ages including boat rides on the river; a super Butterfly Farm that is definitely worth a visit by the river; open topped bus rides, horse pulled carriage rides round the town; a large leisure centre with two swimming pools, all weather pitches, fitness centre etc; Teddy Bear Museum; and of course we must not forget to mention all the Shakespearean attractions the town holds including the theatres and the many street artists performing at various points around the town. The river creates a beautiful setting with canal boats of all sizes visiting and moving through the lock and the riverside gardens are planted beautifully for you to enjoy while you picnic. If you like to shop there is a wide choice for you to browse and of course many restaurants and cafes if you would like to eat out.
Stratford has a main rail station and good bus services linking with most parts of the country.
